The renowned obstetrician and gynecologist, who spent decades delivering newborns in Sagua la Grande, Cuba, passed away in Madrid accompanied by family. Thousands of women, infants, and families were impacted by her legacy of competence, compassion, and quiet commitment.
Dr. Borges, who was born and educated in Cuba, devoted his career to helping the ladies of the province of Villa Clara. He worked at the provincial maternity hospital in Sagua la Grande for more than 40 years, giving birth to innumerable children and supporting families during pregnancies, deliveries, and trying times with calm hands and a comforting smile.
He relocated to Madrid later in his career, where he kept up his practice and imparted his knowledge to younger colleagues until sickness compelled him to retire. He continued to serve as a mentor via phone and message to Cuban physicians who came to him for advice on complex situations.
Dr. Borges was renowned for his modesty; he simply cared about every mother’s health and the safe delivery of her child. For generations of families, he was not just a doctor but also a confidant and friend due to his kind demeanor, extensive expertise, and sincere concern.
His wife, kids, grandkids, and a large extended family in Cuba and Spain survive him. They will miss his stories, his humor, and the way he really cared for everyone.
