Sebastian Long Death: 13-Year-Old West Perry Middle School Student Tragically Died by Suicide

On December 2, 2025, the community of Elliottsburg, Pennsylvania, was heartbroken by the tragic passing of 13-year-old Sebastian Long, an eighth-grade student at West Perry Middle School by suicide.

Born on August 5, 2012, Sebastian touched the lives of many with his bright smile, gentle nature, and kind heart. His sudden loss has left his family, friends, and schoolmates devastated.

Sebastian was the beloved only child of Bob and Melanie Jamison, who have been deeply involved in the West Perry community for years. The Jamisons have dedicated countless hours to volunteering through the West Perry Middle Family Association (WPMFA), where Melanie served as an officer and both parents supported school activities and events.

At school, Sebastian was known as a respectful and helpful student. Teachers recall his quiet sense of humor and willingness to assist classmates and staff, often staying after school to help prepare for band concerts and sporting events. Outside of school, he enjoyed fishing with his dad, building intricate worlds in Minecraft, and spending quality time with his extended family in the Perry County countryside.

In response to this tragedy, the West Perry School District has mobilized counseling support for students and staff, and the community has come together to honor Sebastian’s memory. Classmates have created a touching memorial display in the school lobby, filled with notes, photos, and drawings that reflect the impact of his short but meaningful life.

A private funeral service will be held for Sebastian’s family. A public celebration of his life is planned for early January 2026 at West Perry Middle School, where all who knew him can gather in remembrance. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the West Perry Middle Family Association, ensuring Sebastian’s legacy of kindness continues to support the school community he cherished.
