On December 4, 2025, the Annapolis, Maryland community lost a humble and deeply cherished pillar with the passing of Clyde Gerry Johnson at the age of 71. Known across Anne Arundel County for his quiet generosity, steady presence, and unwavering commitment to serving others, Clyde’s departure has left a profound sense of loss among family, friends, neighbors, and all who benefited from his kindness.
A lifelong Annapolitan, Clyde graduated from Annapolis High School in 1972 and dedicated 38 years of service to the Maryland Department of Transportation as a heavy-equipment operator. Respected by colleagues for his reliability and skill, he often volunteered extra hours during storms and emergencies to keep roads safe, never seeking recognition for his efforts.
Clyde’s deep faith led him to serve as head deacon at New Creation Deliverance Ministries for over twenty years, where he organized a weekly food pantry, drove the church van for seniors, and quietly helped neighbors with groceries, yard work, and countless other acts of care. His commitment to community was a natural extension of his gentle and giving spirit.
Family was at the center of Clyde’s world. He shared 49 years of marriage with his wife, Gloria, and together they raised four children and delighted in eleven grandchildren. Their Eastport home was filled with love, laughter, and the comforting smells of home-cooked meals. Weekends often included crabbing at Truxtun Park and hosting neighborhood fish fries that brought everyone together.
In his spare time, Clyde enjoyed restoring classic Chevrolet trucks, tending a prolific tomato garden, and coaching Little League at Bates Athletic Complex, where he emphasized character and teamwork as much as baseball skills.
A celebration of Clyde’s life will be held on December 12, 2025, at New Creation Deliverance Ministries in Annapolis. Though he will be dearly missed, his legacy of selflessness, faith, and quiet strength continues to live on in the countless lives he touched and the community he helped build.
