Mary T. Fletcher, a beloved longtime resident of Churubusco, Indiana, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, at Oak Pointe. She was 94, just ten days shy of her 95th birthday. Born on January 16, 1931, and Mary grew up in Swan Township. Those early years shaped her. Hard work, family closeness, the rhythm of rural life. She carried that strength and warmth with her always.
She graduated from Avilla High School in 1949 and went on to build a full life. On November 3, 1951, she married Jasper “Pete” Fletcher. They shared forty years together until his passing in 1991. Mary worked for more than twenty-five years at Magnavox, retiring in 1993. She took pride in her job, showing up reliably and giving her best.
What really lit her up, though, was family. Especially the younger generations. Mary loved nothing more than being there for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Sporting events, musicals, plays, show choir performances. It didn’t matter what it was. She just loved going, cheering them on, watching them shine. With 23 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren, there was always something to celebrate.
She leaves behind six children who meant the world to her: Jerry and his wife Christine Fletcher, Danny and Donna Fletcher, Cyndi Fletcher, Cathy and Ralph Oberholtzer, Dee Fletcher, and Melissa Fletcher. Her brother Joe Gadomski, and sisters Greta Gadomski and Marjorie Taulbee stay close too. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Pete.
Community mattered deeply to her. She stayed active as a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church. She supported the Churubusco American Legion Post #157 Auxiliary and the Churubusco VFW Auxiliary. Those groups gave her a sense of belonging and a way to give back.
In her quiet way, Mary touched so many lives. Her steady presence, her joy in the simple things, her endless support for her family. Those memories feel warm even now. Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco handled the arrangements, keeping things private for the family.
