Brant Oberst, a fifth-grade student at Way Elementary School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, has passed away following a sudden medical emergency earlier this week. He was known for his bright spirit and the warmth he brought to his family, classmates, and teammates.
Brant was the beloved son of Mandy Helwig Oberst, a music teacher at Way Elementary. His family’s deep connection to the school made his loss especially profound within the district. He was transported to the University of Michigan’s C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, where he received critical care surrounded by loved ones during his final days. In an act of generosity, his family chose to give the gift of life through organ donation.
