Cathy Jo Baker, a devoted resident of Ligonier, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home of over forty years on December 18, 2025, at the age of 74, surrounded by her loving family in a moment of serene transition.
Born on June 13, 1951, in Ligonier to Medford Talmadge and Flotilla Blanche (Hughes) Durham, she grew up rooted in the community of Noble County, shaping a life of faith, family devotion, and joyful connections that touched generations. The Ligonier area mourns the gentle departure of a woman whose passion for life, love, and fun left enduring warmth in the hearts of those who knew her.
Cathy married Howard Lee Baker on November 14, 1969, building a partnership of over fifty-five years grounded in mutual support and shared values that anchored their household in Ligonier. She dedicated over twenty-seven years to BRC in Ligonier, progressing to a key role in shipping before retiring, exemplifying reliability and teamwork in the local manufacturing sector that supported the region’s economy.
A faithful member of Trinity Assembly of God Church in Ligonier, Cathy centered her existence on serving God and nurturing family, finding deepest fulfillment in spiritual fellowship and relational depth. Her love for dogs brought playful companionship to her home, while her affection for people manifested in welcoming gestures that made others feel cherished and included.
Cathy is survived by her husband Howard Lee Baker, daughters Rhonda Lucas of Auburn and Dawn Byland of Ligonier, thirteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, sisters Peggy Baker of Cromwell, Patty Schofe, Norma Brewer, and Phyllis Durham of Ligonier, along with sister-in-law Marge Durham of Ligonier. Visitation will occur on December 22, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Trinity Assembly of God Church, followed by the funeral service at 12:30 p.m. officiated by Pastor Jeff Thomas, with burial at Sparta Cemetery in Kimmell.
Preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers John, Morris, Bob, Bill, Tom, Jack, and Donald Durham, Cathy’s legacy persists through the strengthened familial bonds she nurtured and the joyful spirit she shared across Noble County.
