The community of Kansas City, Missouri, is mourning the loss of David Charles Prewitt, who passed away peacefully at home on November 28, 2025, after a courageous eighteen-month battle with stage 4 lung cancer. He was 67 years old. David faced his illness with the same quiet strength and subtle humor that characterized his entire life.
A lifelong Northland resident, David graduated from Winnetonka High School in 1976 and dedicated 45 years to his craft as a master electrician with IBEW Local 124. He was respected throughout the trade for his exceptional skill, having helped wire much of Kansas City’s downtown, and for his generous mentorship of countless apprentices who remember him as the man who could solve any electrical problem.
David shared 44 years of marriage with his high school sweetheart, Kathy. Together they raised two sons and a daughter in Platte County, creating a warm, welcoming home where family always came first. He was a constant presence at his children’s and grandchildren’s events, and his legendary backyard barbecues—fueled by his beloved smoker—were neighborhood highlights for decades.
An avid sports fan, David held season tickets to both the Royals and Chiefs for years, keeping detailed scorecards and cherishing Kansas City’s championship moments. Summers were spent on Smithville Lake, where he loved piloting his pontoon boat, teaching grandkids to water ski, and filling the air with classic rock.
Even during his cancer treatment at Saint Luke’s Cancer Institute, David continued delivering Meals on Wheels every Tuesday and discreetly helped neighbors with their utility bills. His final months were filled with porch-side visits, shared memories, and his steadfast, reassuring presence.
A celebration of David’s life will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, where military honors will be presented in recognition of his service in the Missouri Army National Guard.
