At 56, Donnie departed us far too soon, but the faith, love, and quiet strength he lived by will console his family and friends for the rest of their days.
Donnie was raised in rural Greene County, and the values instilled in him during his youth characterized by Sunday church services, communal meals, and gospel music—shaped his entire life. He demonstrated his deeply held faith through his actions, consistently treating others with patience, kindness, and a willingness to help whenever necessary.
He worked hard to care for his family, taking pleasure in his accomplishments and always making time for those who were most important to him. After work, you may find him fishing on the Nolichuckey, watching his children and grandchildren play sports, or sitting on the porch with neighbors and telling stories. His laughter was heartfelt, his embraces were firm, and his door was always open.
Donnie’s religion was the foundation for everything. He was a dedicated member of McMillian Free Will Baptist Church, where he served, worshipped, and fellowshipped with humility. He lived the Gospel by loving his family and caring for others.
Donnie cherished his family the most. He left his wife, children, grandchildren, mother, brothers, and a church family who have become his second family. His abrupt absence has created a void that no one can replace, yet the love he freely provided will continue to speak long after he is gone.
One of the peaceful cornerstones of Greeneville has been gone. Donnie James Shipley lived with faith in his heart, love in his acts, and family at his center. Every hymn sung at McMillian and every deed of generosity performed in his honor will perpetuate his legacy.
The family will welcome guests on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at McMillian Free Will Baptist Church**, followed by a service performed by Rev. Chris Howell.
