Dr. Ari Daniel “Tim” A. Abel, MD, a respected ophthalmologist who spent more than two decades caring for patients in Wilmington, Delaware, passed away on April 8, 2026, at the age of 69.
Born on November 2, 1956, Dr. Abel built his practice around a simple belief: that treating a patient meant seeing the whole person, not just the condition. Colleagues and patients alike came to know him as a steady, compassionate presence in the medical community, someone who took the time to listen and made people feel at ease in an exam room.
Dr. Abel’s journey into medicine began at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, where he earned his medical degree in 1997. He completed his internship at Christiana Care Health Services (1997-1998) before moving on to a residency in ophthalmology at Greater Baltimore Medical Center, finishing in 2001 . He further refined his skills during a fellowship at Albany Medical College in 2003.
In Wilmington, Dr. Abel founded the Abel Center for Oculofacial Plastic Surgery at 1941 Limestone Road, Suite 200. There, he blended comprehensive ophthalmology with advanced oculofacial procedures, helping patients both see clearly and feel confident in their appearance. His practice focused on the intricate areas around the eyes, offering treatments for age-related eyelid conditions, tumors, congenital abnormalities, and cosmetic procedures such as blepharoplasty and facial rejuvenation.
Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology since 2003, Dr. Abel remained affiliated with ChristianaCare Hospitals throughout his career. He was known for staying at the forefront of his field, continuously advancing his knowledge across more than 25 years of practice.
