The community of Baxley, Georgia mourns the passing of George Stacy Swain who was 53 years old when he died suddenly at his home on March 29, 2026. He was born in Appling County on May 17, 1972, to Tracy Swain Sr. and Susie Bennett Swain, the kind of parents who raised their children to know the value of hard work and the importance of family. He carried those lessons with him throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Estelle Leo Swain, and his sister Cathy Meeks. They were the ones who knew him first, who watched him grow, who shared the memories that would become the foundation of his life. Now they are together again.
George is survived by his son, Bryan Swain and his wife Kaylon of Blackshear; his brother, Tracy Swain Jr.; his sisters, Ginger Perry and her husband Ryan of Baxley, and Gloria Diane Bass; and his granddaughter, Rosalie Swain. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who will carry his memory forward.
He was a father first, a man who took pride in his son and the family they built together. His granddaughter, Rosalie, was the light of his later years, a reminder that life continues, that love passes from one generation to the next. He was a brother, a son, an uncle, a friend to those who knew him.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home, with Rev. R.B. Gaskins officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 10 a.m., an hour to gather, to share memories, to hold one another up before they lay him to rest. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
George was 53 years old. He was born in Appling County, raised in a family that knew hardship and joy, and he built a life of his own. He is gone now, too soon, in a way that no one saw coming.
