Three young people were killed in a single-vehicle collision on Interstate 10 in West Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, early on Monday, January 19, 2026. Just before four in the morning, a fiery incident happened on the eastbound lanes of I-10 near mile marker 153, close to the Port Allen hamlet and the Addis exit.
According to the Louisiana State Police, a 2014 Nissan Altima, driven by 20-year-old Kelvanisha Stanley of Hammond, was traveling eastbound on the interstate. For reasons still under investigation by the LSP’s Troop A, the vehicle veered off the right side of the roadway. It then traveled through the median, crossing the grassy area that separates the eastbound and westbound lanes.
The Nissan Altima continued across the westbound travel lanes before leaving the roadway again on the opposite shoulder. There, it struck a large tree head-on at a high rate of speed. The force of the impact was so severe that the car immediately erupted into flames, quickly becoming fully engulfed in fire.
Emergency responders from the Port Allen Police Department, West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, and local fire departments rushed to the scene near mile marker 153. Upon arrival, they encountered a vehicle that was completely consumed by intense flames and heavy smoke, making immediate rescue attempts impossible. Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, but the fire was too advanced.
Once the fire was put out, responders discovered three occupants inside the wreckage. All three were pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified as the driver, Kelvanisha Stanley, 20; and her passengers, 19-year-old Kareem Felder and 20-year-old Jacoby Brumfield, all from Hammond. The intense heat of the fire required the West Baton Rouge Coroner’s Office to use dental records to formally identify the victims.
The Louisiana State Police continue their investigation into the cause of the crash. Troopers are working to determine if speed, impairment, distraction, or a medical condition played a role in why the vehicle left the roadway. This tragic incident has left the communities of Hammond and Port Allen in mourning, grieving the sudden loss of three young people.
