The Dubois community is mourning the loss of Kim Lentner Fields, a 58-year-old mother whose nurturing presence and unconditional love touched everyone fortunate enough to cross her path. She passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, surrounded by her devoted daughter Cierra Gross and son Nathan Gross, having spent the last two and a half years in the Wyoming town she had grown to cherish.
Kim’s journey began far from Dubois, in Flint, Michigan, where she was born on September 24, 1967, to Robert Lentner and Patricia Gillam. As the first of two children, she developed an early and enduring bond with her brother Dean Lentner that would sustain her throughout her life. She graduated from Clio High School in Clio, Michigan, before eventually making her way west to Evanston, Wyoming, in 2005.
Her commitment to helping others extended beyond her immediate circle. In 2014, Kim earned her National Healthcare Association Certified Clinical Medical Assistant certification, completing one hundred forty classroom hours at Uinta County BOCES in Evanston. This achievement reflected a deep-seated desire to provide compassionate care, a quality she would later channel into volunteer work supporting women in shelters.
But Kim’s most profound impact was reserved for her children. Cierra and Nathan were the center of her universe, and she approached motherhood with an intensity of love that shaped who they became. She extended that maternal instinct to their friends as well, earning a reputation as a second mother to anyone who needed one. Her home became a refuge where young people found acceptance, where conversations flowed easily, and where kindness was the only currency that mattered.
Kim found joy in activities as varied as the Wyoming landscape itself. She wrote, drew, read, cooked, golfed, sang, and rode motorcycles through the beautiful terrain she had come to love. Each pursuit reflected a different facet of her personality: creative, active, contemplative, free.
She loved genuinely, laughed readily, and tackled every day with an excitement that spread to everyone around her. Her recurring prayer, “Pray over this family and our car where bumper to bumper, rooftop to where the road meets rubber, all working and non working parts,” encapsulated her protective nature.
She is survived by her daughter Cierra Gross, her son Nathan Gross, her brother Dean Lentner, and her beloved pet Neptune. Her parents, Robert Lentner and Patricia Gillam, preceded her in death. Per Kim’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
