Richmond and Wayne County are mourning the peaceful passing of Lawrence “Larry” Edward Mason on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at Reid Hospital. Larry went home to be with the Lord at age 69, surrounded by the family he cherished and the faith that carried him through every season of life.
Born October 7, 1956 in Richmond to Rudolph Mason and Geraldine Blanton Mason Lundy, Larry grew up in the heart of the city he always called home. A proud Red Devil, he graduated from Richmond High School and carried that Hoosier spirit with him even when life took him to New Jersey for a time. Eventually the pull of family and familiar streets brought him back to Indiana, where he put down deeper roots.
On May 8, 2004, Larry married the love of his life, Vanessa Evans Mason. For 21 beautiful years they built a marriage filled with laughter, quiet mornings with coffee, and unwavering support for each other. Together they created a home that was always open, always warm, and always ready with a meal or a listening ear.
Larry worked hard his whole life, taking pride in providing for his family and doing every job with honesty and care. When he wasn’t working, you could find him cheering on the Colts and Pacers, fishing on a quiet pond, or simply enjoying the company of his loved ones. His faith in Jesus was the foundation of everything; he lived it quietly but powerfully, showing kindness to everyone he met.
Family was Larry’s greatest joy. He leaves behind his devoted wife Vanessa, his children and stepchildren who called him Dad with pride, his grandchildren who brought light to his eyes, and a large extended family who will miss his gentle presence at every gathering. He is now reunited with his parents and all those who went before him.
Richmond has lost a good man. Lawrence Edward Mason lived with a servant’s heart, loved with his wholehearted devotion, and walked humbly with his God. His memory will live on in every act of kindness done in his name and every story told around the table for years to come.
Funeral services will be held in the coming days with details shared by the family. Until then, Richmond holds Vanessa and the entire Mason family close in prayer, grateful for the gift of Larry’s life and the love he left behind. Rest easy, Larry. You are home.
