State police confirmed that the fatal crash occurred at 4:30–4:31 p.m. on April 4, 2026, at the intersection of Stone Hill Road and Roode Road in Griswold, Connecticut, where troopers from Troop E responded to reports of a motorcycle and pickup truck collision. The location was described as a rural intersection with limited sightlines, and arriving officers found both occupants of the motorcycle lying in the center of the roadway.
Investigators determined that 35‑year‑old Nathan Musto of Voluntown had been operating the motorcycle when it collided with the right side of a pickup truck traveling through the intersection. The impact threw both Musto and his passenger from the motorcycle, leaving them with severe injuries. State police documented the final positions of the vehicles and debris as part of the collision reconstruction.
Emergency medical crews transported Musto to Plainfield Backus Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His passenger was also taken to a hospital with suspected serious injuries, according to state police and hospital reports. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured and declined medical attention at the scene.
Troopers noted that the motorcycle came to rest in the center of the intersection, consistent with a high‑energy side impact. The pickup truck remained upright, and officers reported no signs of impairment from the truck’s driver. The roadway was temporarily closed as the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad documented skid marks, vehicle damage, and roadway conditions.
Authorities confirmed that Musto’s passenger survived but remained hospitalized with significant injuries. Police have not released the passenger’s identity, citing privacy considerations. The pickup driver fully cooperated with investigators, and no citations or charges have been announced pending completion of the full reconstruction report.
The death of Nathan Musto has deeply affected the Voluntown and Griswold communities, where he was known as a longtime resident. State police continue to request information from anyone who may have witnessed the collision, directing tips to Troop E in Montville as the investigation remains active.
