Norma Ruth “Sis” Bogner, aged 90, previously residing in rural areas near Columbia City, Indiana, departed peacefully on December 11, 2025, at Brandywine Care Center in Greenfield, where she had lived since August 2021.
Born on October 14, 1935, in Noble County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Frank H. and Alice A. (Caldwell) Gage. She attended Albion Elementary School and completed her high school education at Albion High School in 1953.
In 1953, she united in marriage with Harry R. Bogner, initially establishing their home in Albion before relocating to a family farm in Etna-Troy Township, Whitley County, in 1958. There, they nurtured three children amid a rural lifestyle centered on agriculture and homemaking. Following her husband’s passing in 2009, she later resided with her son in Akron before moving to Greenfield.
Professionally, Bogner balanced farm duties with secretarial roles at Magnavox in Fort Wayne and Whitley County REMC. In 1969, she co-owned and managed daily operations of the Ponderosa Restaurant in Albion until retiring in 2007. Her leisure pursuits included frequent camping trips to Chain O’Lakes State Park, participation in local bowling leagues, competitive euchre games, and avid support for the Chicago Cubs baseball team.
A devoted member of Troy Presbyterian Church for over five decades, Bogner embodied strong faith and contributed actively into her later years. She also attended New Hope Wesleyan Church in Columbia City more recently. Family life revolved around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immense delight and became central to her daily joys.
Survivors include children William R. Bogner of Columbia City, Shari R. Vanderford of Greenfield, and David (Sherri) Bogner of Columbia City, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister Carolyn (James) Pippenger of Churubusco. Preceding her in death were granddaughter Sara Bogner and several brothers.
The funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on December 20, 2025, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home in Columbia City, followed by burial at Troy Presbyterian Cemetery beside her husband. Visitation will occur from 4 to 7 p.m. on December 19, 2025, at the funeral home. These arrangements allow family and community to gather in remembrance of her fulfilling life.
