On November 29, 2025, a tragic multi-vehicle accident on Highway 11 near Line 15 North in Orillia claimed the life of Sarah Monaghan. The collision occurred shortly after 7 p.m. during heavy evening traffic. Despite the rapid response from Orillia OPP and Simcoe County paramedics, Sarah was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other drivers sustained minor injuries.
The Ontario Provincial Police are investigating the cause of the crash, with early indications pointing to possible black ice and reduced visibility. The highway was closed for several hours during the investigation, and authorities are asking any witnesses to come forward.
Sarah grew up in Orillia, where she attended Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School and later Bishop Reding Catholic Secondary School after her family moved. Known for her contagious laugh and inclusive spirit, she was the friend who organized lunchtime sing-alongs and made sure no one ever felt left out. Teachers remember her kindness, and classmates still speak of the warmth and belonging she brought to every room.
She lived with a joyful and adventurous heart—whether dancing at school events, planning road trips with friends, or sharing quiet moments by Lake Couchiching. Sarah loved music, adventure, and the people who made life feel meaningful.
Family meant everything to Sarah. She is survived by her parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a close-knit circle of friends who became like family. Her sudden absence has left a profound void, but her love continues to echo in the cherished memories of those who knew her.
Orillia has lost one of its brightest and most beloved young souls far too soon. Sarah Monaghan lived with joy in her laughter and love in her eyes. The community is now rallying around her family with support, meals, and prayers.
