Update on 2022 Bronx Pharmacy Murder: Isiah Garrett sentenced for killing rapper Avanti Frowner

The most recent development in the case came on March 31, 2026, when 27‑year‑old Isiah Garrett was sentenced to 20 years to life in state prison for killing Los Angeles‑based drill rapper Avanti “Vontae” Frowner inside the Amazing Pharmacy at 595 East Tremont Avenue, Crotona, Bronx. Prosecutors stated that Garrett shot, beat, and robbed Frowner during the violent encounter, and the sentencing marked a major milestone in a case that had remained active for nearly four years.

Garrett’s sentencing followed his March 3, 2026 guilty plea to murder, a decision that prosecutors said acknowledged his central role in the deadly robbery. Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark emphasized the severity of Garrett’s actions, noting that he forced Frowner into the pharmacy and opened fire, endangering not only the victim but everyone present inside the store. Two additional defendants are still awaiting trial, while another co‑defendant has already pleaded guilty to manslaughter and is scheduled for sentencing in May 2026.

The case stems from the early‑morning hours of June 9, 2022, when Frowner, a 27‑year‑old Chicago native living in Los Angeles, visited the pharmacy with a friend shortly before 2 a.m. while in New York City for a performance. According to prosecutors, a group of armed men approached the pair outside the store and forced them back inside at gunpoint. The confrontation escalated rapidly, turning the pharmacy into the scene of a deadly attack.

Once inside, the assailants beat Frowner and then shot him multiple times in the torso. Reports indicate he was struck a dozen times as the robbery unfolded. The attackers also stole two chains and cash before fleeing, leaving witnesses inside the pharmacy traumatized by the sudden and extreme violence. The brutality of the assault underscored the danger posed to both the victim and bystanders who happened to be in the store at the time.

Law enforcement quickly mobilized, and investigators traced the suspects across state lines. On June 22, 2022, authorities located and arrested the group in Georgia, bringing an end to their attempted flight. Surveillance footage, witness accounts, and forensic evidence helped prosecutors build a detailed timeline of the events leading to the killing, strengthening the case against Garrett and his co‑defendants.

As the legal proceedings advanced, the Bronx community and Frowner’s supporters followed the case closely, seeking justice for a rising artist whose life was cut short. With Garrett now sentenced and additional defendants moving through the court system, the case continues to unfold, but the memory of the violence at 595 East Tremont Avenue remains a lasting reminder of the tragedy that occurred in the early hours of that June morning.
