Deputies in Harris County responded to a deadly domestic violence shooting on April 10 after a 911 call reported that a woman had been shot inside a home on Cypress Falls Drive. The call came in shortly after 10 p.m., and investigators later confirmed that the victim had recently filed for divorce from her estranged husband, Keith Washington.
When deputies arrived, they found Tynice Friday fatally wounded inside the residence. Her two children, ages 6 and 18, were present during the attack and provided statements to investigators about what had occurred. Authorities confirmed that the shooting happened inside the home and that the children witnessed the violence.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the couple’s young son was the one who called 911, telling dispatchers that his father had shot his mother. Deputies later learned that Friday had taken steps toward ending the marriage, which investigators believe may have contributed to the confrontation.
After the shooting, Washington fled the scene in his vehicle. Law enforcement began searching for him immediately, using information from the children and the 911 call to track his movements. Deputies located him a short time later, still armed and refusing to surrender.
Authorities reported that Washington fired shots from inside his truck when deputies attempted to take him into custody. A SWAT team was deployed, and a prolonged standoff followed as negotiators worked to bring the situation under control without further injuries.
Washington eventually surrendered and was taken into custody. He has since been charged with murder in connection with the killing of Tynice Friday. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the charge and stated that he remains jailed as the investigation continues.
