Eugene was a 1966 graduate of Lake High School, where he laid the foundation for a life marked by discipline and responsibility. Following his graduation, he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, demonstrating patriotism and courage during a pivotal era in American history.
After his military service, he furthered his education at Owens Community College, earning an Associate Degree. This commitment to learning reflected his desire for personal growth and professional development, values that guided his subsequent career.
Professionally, Eugene worked as a line worker for the phone company until his retirement, a role that required physical endurance, technical skill, and reliability. He was a dedicated advocate for his fellow workers, serving as a Union Steward for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local #986.
In this capacity, he demonstrated leadership and fairness, ensuring that the rights and well-being of his colleagues were protected. Colleagues remember him for his integrity and his willingness to stand up for what was right, noting how his stewardship strengthened the union community.
Faith was a central pillar of Eugene’s life, evidenced by his active membership at St. John Lutheran Church in Williston.
