The incident occurred at the extended-stay motel located at 2323 Old Norcross Road in Lilburn, Gwinnett County, Georgia. Lewis was playing video games in his family’s rented room when he was struck by a single gunshot that came from the adjacent unit.
According to a police report obtained by local media, the tenant in the room next door, 23-year-old Christian Tucker, told investigators he had just returned from a shooting range and was cleaning his personal firearm. Tucker stated the weapon, a 9mm pistol, accidentally discharged while he was handling it. The projectile traveled through the shared wall between the two motel rooms.
The bullet struck Sheldon Lewis in the upper body, causing a critical injury. One of Sheldon’s sisters described the sound as a “pop” and recounted the moment they turned on the lights to see blood and a hole in the wall, saying it felt like a nightmare.
