A disagreement about missing clothes turned fatal late Wednesday night in Greenwood, South Carolina. What began as a conversation in a communal laundry room ended with a 41 year old man dead and a 24 year old woman in custody.
Police received a call just after 11 p.m. reporting trouble on the 800 block of South Main Street. When officers arrived, they found Michael C. Boston of Greenwood suffering from a gunshot wound. He was still alive. Emergency crews rushed him to Self Regional Medical Center. Doctors worked on him, but the injury was too severe. The Greenwood County Coroner’s Office recorded his time of death as 11:37 p.m.
The shooting was not random. Investigators determined that Boston and a female neighbor, later identified as Breosche Floyd, had been arguing in the apartment complex laundry room. The issue was missing laundry.
Clothing that belonged to one of them, according to police, had disappeared. Words were exchanged. The argument continued into the hallway. At some point, Floyd retrieved a handgun. She fired. Boston went down. Officers found him in the hallway before EMS arrived. No one else was hurt.
Floyd, age 24, was arrested and charged with murder. She also faces a charge of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Jail records show that bond was denied on both counts. She remains at the Greenwood County Detention Center.
The Greenwood Police Department and the Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate. Detectives have asked anyone with additional information to contact the Investigations Division. What remains unclear is whether the argument escalated quickly or had been building. What is clear is that a dispute over missing clothing led to a homicide. A man is dead. A woman is in jail. And a laundry room in Greenwood is now a crime scene.
