A young Fresno man was killed in a fiery, two-vehicle crash on a rural Fresno County road during a foggy early morning. The fatal collision occurred at approximately 5:37 a.m. on January 18, 2026. The precise location was on Clovis Avenue, south of Panoche Road, near Highway 99 in the county’s agricultural region, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased driver as 23-year-old Michael Molano of Fresno. He was driving a 1995 Ford F-150 pickup truck northbound on Clovis Avenue. The heavy morning fog, described by officials as a tule fog event common in the valley, severely limited visibility on the roadway at the time of the crash.
The collision involved a 2016 Volvo semi-truck and trailer driven by a 30-year-old man from Corcoran. The CHP investigation indicates the semi-truck driver was traveling southbound on Clovis Avenue and initiated a U-turn to head north. As the big rig crossed the northbound lanes, Molano’s pickup truck collided with the passenger side of the trailer.
The force of the impact and resulting fuel spill caused both vehicles to erupt into flames. The driver of the semi-truck was able to escape his burning cab without injury. Michael Molano, however, was trapped inside his pickup truck. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
The crash and subsequent fire created a massive emergency response, closing Clovis Avenue in both directions for several hours. Crews from the Fresno County Fire Department worked to extinguish the blaze. The California Highway Patrol’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) was called to the scene to conduct a detailed reconstruction of the collision due to its fatal nature.
