Oswaldo Sandoval Death – Los Angeles man dies alongside his toddler nephew on May 3

Oswaldo Sandoval, 25, was killed in a violent hit-and-run incident early on Sunday morning, May 3, 2026, around 6800 Vista Del Mar, near Culver Boulevard in the Playa del Rey neighborhood of Los Angeles. A BMW SUV carrying four family members was involved in the crash, which happened at around 4:34 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Authorities stated that Sandoval and three relatives were leaving a beach bonfire when their BMW was struck by a white Jeep traveling at high speed. The impact caused catastrophic damage to the SUV, and Sandoval was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

A 1‑year‑old child who was also inside the BMW was transported to a hospital in critical condition but later died from injuries sustained in the crash. The child’s father and aunt, who were also in the vehicle, were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, including multiple broken ribs and life‑threatening trauma.

Witnesses and family friends who arrived shortly after the collision described the scene as chaotic and emotionally devastating. Neighbors reported hearing screams from relatives as they saw the wreckage for the first time, and several community members expressed grief over the loss of both Sandoval and the young child.

Investigators said the driver of the Jeep, described as an adult Hispanic man, exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, leaving the Jeep behind. Police are working to determine whether impairment or fatigue played a role in the crash, and they are examining the abandoned vehicle for evidence.

The Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Fire Department continue to search for the suspect as they reconstruct the events leading up to the deadly collision. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation remains active.
