Santa Clarita, CA – Dion Mumphrey, 39, died in pickup truck hit-and-run collision

The driver of the big, dark-colored pickup truck that struck and killed 39-year-old Dion Mumphrey on Friday night, April 10, 2026, near Santa Clarita is being sought by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies. The crash happened at around 8:22 p.m. at the busy junction of Tourney Road and Magic Mountain Parkway, which is close to Valencia.

Deputies say the westbound pickup truck hit Mumphrey as he was crossing or standing near the roadway. The driver did not stop, continuing westbound along Magic Mountain Parkway immediately after the impact. Witnesses provided descriptions of the vehicle, but no arrest has yet been made.

Emergency responders from the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived quickly, but despite their efforts, Mumphrey was pronounced dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner later confirmed his identity and notified next of kin.

Authorities say the pickup truck involved was traveling at a significant speed when it struck the victim. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and traffic cameras in hopes of identifying the fleeing driver.

The intersection where the crash occurred is known for heavy nighttime traffic due to nearby shopping centers and freeway access points. Deputies have urged anyone who may have witnessed the collision or seen the fleeing vehicle to contact the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

As the investigation continues, Mumphrey’s death has renewed community concern about pedestrian safety and the rising number of hit‑and‑run incidents in Los Angeles County. Deputies emphasize that even in panic, drivers involved in collisions are legally required to stop and render aid.
