Alberto Martinez Garcia Death – Watsonville teen and 33-year-old man died in vehicles collision

With deep regret, we announce the tragic passing of Alberto Martinez Garcia, 17, of Watsonville, California, who died following a serious three-vehicle collision on Saturday night, May 2, 2026. The crash occurred around 10:18 p.m. on California Highway 1, north of Springfield Road near Moss Landing.

A GMC pickup crossed the centerline, sideswiped a northbound Ford pickup, and then struck the Honda sedan in which Alberto was a passenger head-on. He was transported to a hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries.

A 33-year-old man riding in the same Honda sedan was also killed in the crash. A third passenger from the Honda remains hospitalized in critical condition. The 58-year-old woman in the Ford pickup was injured and hospitalized, while the other occupants in that vehicle were not seriously hurt. The 51-year-old driver of the GMC pickup sustained serious injuries and was arrested at the scene. He faces charges including DUI causing injury after officers observed signs of alcohol impairment.

Alberto was a bright and promising young man from Watsonville whose life was cut short far too soon. His sudden death has devastated his family, friends, and the local community, especially as he was just beginning to explore his future. The loss of two lives in this single tragic incident has left many in the Watsonville and Moss Landing area grieving.
