Vargas, a young man from the Littlerock area in Los Angeles County, California, was a passenger in a gray Infiniti G35 sedan traveling eastbound on Mount Emma Road. The crash occurred around 6:39 p.m. at the intersection with 77th Street East, south of the Pearblossom Highway, on a rural two-lane desert road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the Infiniti crossed into the oncoming westbound lane and collided head-on with a white Honda Pilot SUV. The impact was severe, resulting in catastrophic front-end damage to both vehicles. Vargas and the 23-year-old driver of the Infiniti, identified as Byron Herrera Lorenzana, were pronounced dead at the scene.
