Officers arriving at the scene discovered a victim on the ground outside the bank. The victim was a 50-year-old woman who had sustained a gunshot wound. Paramedics from the Mecklenburg EMS Agency (MEDIC) arrived to assess the woman’s condition. Despite their efforts, the injuries proved fatal, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit worked to piece together the events. They determined that the victim, Ina Michelle Lang, was an employee of the bank. Evidence suggested she was on a break from work at the time of the shooting. The circumstances indicated she was an innocent bystander, caught in the crossfire of a violent dispute that had nothing to do with her or the bank itself.
The dispute that led to the shooting involved three other individuals who were at the location. Witnesses told police the three were in a verbal argument that escalated. At least one of the individuals produced a firearm and fired shots. Ina Michelle Lang, standing nearby, was struck by a stray bullet. The suspects then fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
