Corey D. Jones, a 43-year-old Vancouver resident known for his love of cars and football, spent the evening there with a close friend for a casual guys night. Friends described Corey as an outgoing family man with a wife, five children, and two grandchildren, someone who could connect with anyone through his goofy humor and generous nature, often going out of his way to help others.
As the night wound down around 12:50 a.m., Corey and his friend headed toward the exit in the parking lot. An argument that started inside the bar over favorite football teams, possibly involving Nebraska, followed them outside when another patron became irate and confronted them.
What began as words quickly escalated when the other man, identified as 28-year-old Jared D. Taylor, pulled out a firearm. He fired multiple shots at close range, striking Corey several times while his friend stood nearby, initially thinking it might lead only to a fistfight.
