A 19‑year‑old Makyah L. Mackey of Bowling Green died Saturday night, May 2, 2026, after a head‑on collision in the 400 block of Corvette Drive, according to the Bowling Green Police Department. Officers were dispatched at 9:14 p.m. to reports of an injury crash involving two vehicles.
When officers arrived, they found both vehicles heavily damaged from a direct head‑on impact. Mackey, the driver of one vehicle, was transported to The Medical Center at Bowling Green, where she was later pronounced deceased from injuries sustained in the crash.
The second driver, 20‑year‑old Dajuan B. Sykes of Bowling Green, sustained minor injuries. Witnesses told police that Sykes was passing another vehicle in a curve when he crossed into the opposing lane and struck Mackey’s vehicle head‑on.
Officers suspected Sykes was under the influence, and investigators obtained a search warrant for a blood sample. Police also noted that the crash occurred near the National Corvette Museum area, where Corvette Drive curves sharply and has been the site of prior high‑risk driving incidents.
Sykes was arrested and lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail. He faces multiple charges, including Vehicular Homicide, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, Driving Under the Influence, Reckless Driving, Trafficking in Marijuana, Possession of an Open Alcohol Container, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Police confirmed that the investigation remains active as crash reconstruction teams continue to analyze roadway evidence, vehicle positions, and witness statements to determine the full sequence of events leading to the fatal collision.
