A teenager from Macon, Georgia, lost his life over the weekend in an off-road crash that also sent three other teens to the hospital. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said the accident happened around 7:51 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Vinson Road and Liberty Church Road.
The driver of a Dodge Ram 1500 was traveling off-road when they lost control of the vehicle, causing the truck to overturn . A 16-year-old passenger who had been riding in the bed of the pickup was ejected during the rollover.
Deputies identified the victim as Harrison Doyle Morris, a local teen who was found unresponsive at the crash scene. Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones pronounced him dead at the location. Three others were also hurt in the crash: the 16-year-old driver, a front-seat passenger, and a 15-year-old who had been riding inside the truck. All three were taken to a local hospital. According to the sheriff’s office, their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
The boy’s mother, Kalyn Collins, shared her heartbreak publicly, posting on social media: “Even though I know my baby boy is right now sitting at the feet of Jesus, I want him back here with me. Harrison Morris save your Mama a seat right next to you. My forever 16, 6’4″ baby boy”.
Harrison was an 11th grade student at Rutland High School, where he was known as a “proud Hurricane”. According to his obituary, he was born weighing 10 pounds, earning him the title of “biggest baby” in the nursery, and grew into a tall young man with a gift for bringing joy into every room . He loved to tease and “pick” at people in the sweetest way, always leaving others smiling or laughing. He had a passion for music and could often be found singing at the top of his lungs with the volume turned all the way up.
Harrison had a love for Legos that began when he was just three years old, and over the years he built dozens of intricate creations. He was also an outdoorsy young man who enjoyed adventure and time spent outside any chance he got. He was a member of Cub Scout Pack 225 and later Boy Scout Troop 235, bonds that held a very special place in his heart.
No charges have been filed at this time. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the deadly off-road rollover and is asking anyone with information to contact their fatality investigators.
