A 51‑year‑old Jarrod Holt died early Sunday morning after suffering a medical emergency shortly after being booked into the Galveston County Jail, according to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office. Holt had been arrested by the La Marque Police Department at 4:49 a.m. on May 3, 2026, on a felony parole board warrant.
Police transported Holt to the jail, arriving at approximately 5:39 a.m., where he underwent a standard intake evaluation conducted by UTMB medical staff. During that assessment, Holt told medical personnel that he had ingested cocaine, a disclosure officials later confirmed publicly.
Shortly after the evaluation, Holt’s condition began to rapidly deteriorate, with officials reporting that he started vomiting and sweating heavily. UTMB staff immediately initiated emergency medical care in an attempt to stabilize him as his symptoms intensified.
Jail personnel and UTMB medical responders performed CPR and continued lifesaving efforts as Holt’s condition worsened. Despite these interventions, he required urgent transport to UTMB Galveston Hospital for advanced treatment as the medical emergency escalated.
Holt was pronounced deceased at 6:44 a.m., less than two hours after his initial arrest. Authorities confirmed that his death occurred shortly after arrival at the hospital, following the rapid onset of symptoms linked to his reported drug ingestion.
In accordance with Texas Jail Standards, the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office notified the Texas Rangers and the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, both of which responded to the jail and launched an independent investigation. Officials stated that medical records, security footage, and witness interviews are being reviewed to determine the full circumstances surrounding Holt’s death.
