On Monday evening, February 16, 2026, deputies with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office responded to a homicide investigation at the Centennial Gardens Apartments, located off Hacks Cross Road near Highway 385 in southeast Shelby County. The call came in around 6:15 p.m. reporting a shooting in the parking lot of the complex.
When deputies arrived, they learned that a woman had shot another woman during a domestic dispute. The victim, later identified as Leah Carnes, 32, was driven by a man to Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital, where she was pronounced dead from her injuries.
