Upon arrival, officers discovered 43-year-old Jason Finch suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body, with several civilians already rendering aid at the scene.

The suspect was quickly identified as 26-year-old David Rombousek, a Port Jervis resident whom authorities described as armed and dangerous, prompting an urgent manhunt involving multiple law enforcement agencies. The Port Jervis Police Department coordinated with the New York State Police, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Group, and the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center to locate the fugitive.
The manhunt came to a successful conclusion at approximately 7:35 p.m. on Sunday evening, when members of the Port Jervis Police Department took Rombousek into custody without incident on Ball Street, also located in the city’s Fourth Ward. The arrest brought a swift resolution to what had been an hours-long search for the homicide suspect, with police expressing gratitude to all assisting agencies and members of the public for their cooperation.
Chief William Worden provided updates throughout the day, confirming that as of 10 a.m. police had a suspect and were continuing to follow numerous leads before the eventual arrest. The investigation was conducted jointly by multiple agencies, and while Rombousek was taken into custody, authorities did not release additional details regarding the relationship between the suspect and the victim or the specific circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
