A Sunday morning collision on a central Texas roadway resulted in the tragic deaths of two teenagers from Burnet County and left a third individual seriously injured. The two-vehicle crash occurred just before noon on Sunday, February 1, 2026. The precise location was on Ranch to Market Road 2900, a rural highway near the city of Burnet in Burnet County, Texas.
According to the preliminary investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety, an 18-year-old male was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry northbound on RM 2900. For reasons still under investigation, the Camry crossed onto the southbound shoulder. In response, the driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to veer back across the center line and into the path of oncoming traffic. The Camry collided nearly head-on with a southbound 2006 GMC Canyon pickup truck.
The force of the collision was fatal for both occupants of the Toyota Camry. The driver, Zackary Frisch was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, identified as 17-year-old Danielle Rushton of Burnet, Texas, was also pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the GMC Canyon sustained incapacitating injuries in the crash and was airlifted from the scene to a regional hospital for emergency medical treatment.
The identities of the deceased driver and the injured driver of the pickup truck have not been publicly released by authorities pending notification of their families. The names are expected to be made available following formal identification by the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office, which is handling the autopsies for the deceased teens.
The Texas Department of Public Safety’s Highway Patrol Division continues its full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. State troopers will examine all potential factors, including vehicle condition, driver actions, and roadway conditions at the time of the incident. The investigation is standard procedure for all fatal traffic crashes in Texas.
This devastating crash has deeply impacted the Burnet community and the local high school. The loss of two young lives serves as a somber reminder of the severe consequences that can result from a single moment of driver error or loss of control on rural roadways. The community is now left to mourn while investigators work to determine the exact cause of the collision.
