We regret to inform you that Jeffrey G. Frank, a cherished Dexter, Michigan resident, passed away quietly on May 6, 2026, at the Chelsea Retirement Community Towsley Village, just hours before he would have been 83. As a committed journalist, devoted family man, and pillar of the community, Jeff led a rich and fulfilling life whose warmth, intelligence, and integrity affected everyone around him.
A proud University of Michigan alumnus, Jeff built an impressive career in journalism spanning more than three decades. He began at the Grand Haven Tribune, where he covered city council and school board meetings, took photographs, and reported on local news.
In 1968, he returned to Ann Arbor and joined The Ann Arbor News, starting as a general assignment reporter and copy editor before advancing to assistant city editor and news editor. From 1977 to 1989, he designed more than 2,800 front pages, shaping how generations of readers experienced the news. He retired in 2002 as operations director after 34 years of dedicated service.
Jeff was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His family was the center of his world, and he took great pride in their accomplishments and shared many cherished moments together. Those who knew him spoke of his sharp mind, dry wit, and genuine kindness. Whether mentoring young journalists or spending time with loved ones, Jeff brought thoughtfulness and quiet strength to every role he filled.
The Rev. Joy Barrett will conduct a memorial ceremony at the Chelsea First United Methodist Church, located at 128 Park St., on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. After the ceremony, refreshments will be provided in the church’s social hall. Visitation will take place in the sanctuary from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Jeffrey G. Frank will be remembered as a talented journalist, a devoted family man, and a gentleman whose life of service, creativity, and love left a lasting legacy in Ann Arbor, Dexter, and beyond. Though he is gone, the stories he helped tell and the love he gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him.
