A lady from Markleville lost her life in a terrible head-on collision early on Thursday morning when a motorist who was reportedly under the influence of narcotics crossed the lines and hit her car. The collision happened about 6:30 a.m. in Madison County, Indiana, just outside of Markleville, close to the crossroads of State Road 109 and County Road 200 East.
Nancy Staley, 56, of Markleville, was identified as the victim by the authorities. When the crash happened, she was operating her Jeep Wrangler. Staley was thrown out of her car due to the force of the crash. She was declared dead at the spot by emergency personnel.
The other driver was Anderson resident Aidan Patterson, 18, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. Patterson struck Staley’s Jeep head-on while driving a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck into oncoming traffic. Drug impairment may have contributed to the collision, according to investigators.
According to reports, Patterson was unharmed in the incident. Toxicology testing is part of the ongoing investigation by law enforcement personnel to ascertain the degree of impairment and if charges will be brought.
