A community was shaken by a horrific discovery in the quiet Cascata Falls neighborhood of North Edmond, Oklahoma, on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. Authorities were called to a home on the 9000 block of Treviso Trail, near the intersection of Bryant and Simmons Roads, for a report of a fight involving two teenagers.
When Logan County Sheriff’s deputies arrived around 2:15 p.m., one of the detained teenagers made a chilling statement, telling officers the other had killed their mother and placed her body outside in the trash.
Deputies located a deceased woman inside a trash can, or a poly cart bin used for trash collection, along the side of the street. The victim was identified by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) as 49-year-old Spring Weems. According to investigators, Weems had suffered injuries consistent with homicide, though the specific nature of those injuries and whether a weapon was used have not been publicly disclosed.
Weems was the adoptive mother and sole guardian of the two teenage boys who lived with her at the residence on Treviso Trail. She was a dedicated Christian mother who was deeply involved in her children’s lives, frequently attending their high school wrestling matches and sharing her faith and their accomplishments on social media. The investigation determined the only people living at the home were Weems and her two adopted sons.
Following an investigation at the scene and hours of questioning, authorities arrested one of the teenagers, whose name has not been released because he is a juvenile. He was booked into a Canadian County juvenile detention center on a first-degree murder complaint in connection with Weems’ death. The other teen was released and is staying with other family members as authorities work with the state to find a safe placement for him.
The OSBI, which has taken over the investigation, has stated that there are no other suspects at large and there is no ongoing danger to the public. The victim’s body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
The shocking crime has left the quiet, family-oriented neighborhood of Cascata Falls in disbelief. As OSBI spokesperson Hunter McKee stated, “This is a heartbreaking situation. We’re going to try to find justice for this case”. The investigation remains active, with authorities continuing to interview neighbors and process evidence.
